Patient Advocacy Plus is the link between the patient and the healthcare system that brings clarity, understanding, and support to every healthcare journey.

We are led by an unshakable belief that patients should feel in charge of their health care. We want patients to feel listened to and supported rather than dictated to. We want to challenge the existing healthcare system to lead with a patient-first, supportive approach.

We offer advice for navigating the healthcare system, in-hospital support, unpacking of your experiences, appointment buddy services, and critical incident debriefing. We empower the patient experience while creating the most favourable outcomes in your journey through the healthcare system.

Hi, I’m Kate Hoskin

I’m a critical care nurse with more than a decade of emergency nursing experience, specialising in clinical education.

I started Patient Advocacy Plus after feeling disheartened in the seemingly impossible task of reforming the health care system to hold a patient-first focus. After investing time in policy and protocol development as part of hospital leadership teams and committees, I realised I would not be able to move mountains from inside the system.

I decided that if I couldn’t change the way the system operates, I could at least change the way patients engage with it. I want to help the patient see that they have a choice and a voice, and empower them to use both.

My goal is to empower enough individuals and change their experiences and behaviour within the system, that as a collective, we begin to affect change. My hope is for patients to only engage with quality practitioners who believe providing healthcare is a privilege — thereby changing the priorities of those who don’t practice this way.

I want to lead the healthcare system to a place where patients feel more healed and supported by their healthcare journey rather than traumatised by it. I believe offering my voice of experience and understanding of health care culture and organizational nuances will provide patients with a much more positive and healing experience.
